3 Benefits Of Installing Luxury Vinyl Planks Rather Than Laminate Flooring

Blog

If you plan to replace some of the floors in your home, then you might have added luxury vinyl planks (LVP) and laminates to your shortlist. While laminate flooring has some advantages, LVP floors might be a better choice. Why?

1. LVP Floors Have Better Water Resistance

It's important to think about how your flooring can handle water and moisture. While this might not be a problem in a living room or bedroom, it is an important factor in a bathroom, kitchen, or laundry room.

Laminate planks don't typically deal with water that well. While a minor spill that you clean up immediately won't cause a problem, repeated exposure to condensation, moisture, or water can damage laminate floors.

If water gets in these planks, then it will start to cause some damage when it reaches the inner layers. For example, planks might swell. Their layers might start to separate and peel away from each other.

LVP flooring has better water resistance. It is usually waterproof. Water won't seep into the vinyl, so it isn't likely to get damaged even in a wet room.

2. LVP Floors Have Texture

Both laminates and LVP flooring are made to look like real wood. While both options can mimic the look of wood really well, LVP products have an edge. These planks often have some texture on their surface.

For example, they might have basic or wood-specific graining textures. These textures make the planks look more like real wood. Laminates can't usually match these effects. So, if you want the look of wood without using a wooden floor, LVP is a better option.

3. LVP Floors Are Easier to Clean

Laminate flooring is easy to clean in some ways. You can brush or vacuum dust and dirt off the surface. However, you have to take more care over how you wet-clean laminate planks.

You shouldn't usually use water to mop laminate floors. The water will seep into the surface and into cracks.

While you can immediately dry a floor after mopping, this increases your workload. Even so, you might not be able to prevent some water from getting into the floor. So, you might need to use specialty cleaners if you need a wetter clean.

You can also brush or vacuum LVP floors. However, you can also wet mop these surfaces. They won't absorb the water, so you can clean the floor fast without extra drying work or without needing to buy specialty cleaners.

Keeping Feet Comfortable

We often think of flooring as a structural element. It gives us something to stand on, and it provides a bottom surface for a building. These functions of flooring should not be under-estimated. However, they are not the only purpose of flooring. Actually, flooring is also meant to serve the function of keeping your feet comfortable. At least, good flooring seeks to satisfy this goal. Carpet can definitely keep your feet cushioned and healthy, and so can padded vinyl flooring. As you read the articles on this blog, we ask you to keep the following in mind: flooring is multi-functional.
